Lifelong Cape Codder

ORLEANS ''' Paul E. Deschamps, 92, a lifelong resident of Orleans died on Thursday, April 02, 2015 at Pleasant Bay Nursing Home after a brief illness.

Mr. Deschamps was born and raised in Orleans and graduated from Orleans High School in 1940. When World War II broke out he enlisted in the US Navy. He served his country as a fire controlman aboard the USS Tinsman in the Philippines during the war.

Returning to Orleans in 1945, Mr. Deschamps married Jean Walsh and together they started their family. He was employed for thirty-eight years at Cape and Vineyard Electric Co. He loved the town of Orleans and was proud to serve the community. As a young man he was a volunteer fire dispatcher. Later he served several terms on both the school and finance committees, as well as many years as the town's wire inspector. Following his retirement in 1986, Mr. Deschamps and his wife spent winters in Florida, until her illness forced them to return to Orleans in 2003 to be closer to family.

Mr. Deschamps enjoyed life and was proud to be a true Cape Codder. He was dedicated to his family, worked hard, and was a handy man who could fix anything. He was a man of many interests, but most mostly enjoyed fishing, golf, following Boston's sports teams, and helping others. For the past several summers he loved getting together with his Orleans High School (1940) classmates, and he was looking forward to their 75th reunion this year.

He is survived by his daughter Pam of Beverly, MA, his son Dana and his wife Kerry of Georgia, VT, his grandchildren Michelle, Casey, Paul, Trish, Devon, and Carly; and his great-grandchildren McKenna, Angel, Mikey, Megan, Kayden, Julia, Noah, Candace, and Camille. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, as well as his caregivers and good friends Lisa Gough and Kathy Harris.
Mr. Deschamps was predeceased by his beloved wife of sixty years, Jean; as well as his daughter, Paula Ventura, and his grandson, Mark Ventura. He was the son of the late Ralph and Bertha Deschamps, and the younger brother of his late siblings Denise, Bob, and Charlie.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 10am at St. Joan of Arc Church in Orleans. Burial will follow in Orleans Cemetery, Orleans, MA.

Memorial donations may be made to Orleans Firemen's Rescue Squad Association, 58 Eldredge Parkway, Orleans, MA 02653.
