Joseph D. McGann, Jr, age 76, of East Orleans, Massachusetts passed away at home on Monday, August 7, 2017. He was born in Pawtucket, RI on August 3, 1941, the son of the late Joseph D. and Virginia (Clark) McGann. He is survived by his wife Stephanie "Taffy" (Morrison) McGann of East Orleans; son Timothy J. McGann (Jennifer) and step-grandchildren Alex, Georgianna, and Wallace, all of Bristol, RI; daughter Stephanie McGann Sheehan (James) and grandchildren James Sheehan and Macey Sheehan, all of Simsbury, CT; sisters Mary (McGann) Sheehan of Portsmouth, RI and Virginia (McGann) Webber...

Joseph D. McGann, Jr, age 76, of East Orleans, Massachusetts passed away at home on Monday, August 7, 2017. He was born in Pawtucket, RI on August 3, 1941, the son of the late Joseph D. and Virginia (Clark) McGann. He is survived by his wife Stephanie "Taffy" (Morrison) McGann of East Orleans; son Timothy J. McGann (Jennifer) and step-grandchildren Alex, Georgianna, and Wallace, all of Bristol, RI; daughter Stephanie McGann Sheehan (James) and grandchildren James Sheehan and Macey Sheehan, all of Simsbury, CT; sisters Mary (McGann) Sheehan of Portsmouth, RI and Virginia (McGann) Webber (Scott) of Hobe Sound, FL; and brother James McGann (Susan) of Colchester, CT. He was predeceased by his sister Susan (McGann) Moses (Ronald) of East Providence, RI.

Mr. McGann was a graduate of Barrington High School and Providence College, where he was active in fundraising and leadership roles, serving as the secretary of the Providence College National Alumni Association. He also did graduate work at Columbia University and was a graduate of the American Management Association Course. Active in various fund rasing leadership roles with the United Way of Southeastern New England throughout his business career in the insurance industry, he was also the finance chairman for former Attorney General James E. O'Neil's successful political campaigns. He also engaged in fundraising efforts for various other Rhode Island charities .

Mr. McGann was a U.S. Army Veteran, participating in his post's boxing and football teams. He was also a long time member of the American Legion and the Sons of Irish Kings in Providence, RI.

In the late 90s, Joseph and Stephanie moved to Orleans on Cape Cod, where he served as the executive director of the Hyannis area Economic Development Corporation and as a realtor with Jack Conway, Hyannis. He wrote as a guest columnist on economic development issues for both the Barnstable Patriot and the Cape Cod Times. He was a graduate of Leadership Cape Cod and the Massachusetts General Court Legislative Leadership Seminar.

In his later years, he was self-employed as a consultant specializing in small business reorganizations and was a nationally known expert on business fraud. In this capacity, he worked in many areas of the United States, most recently in southern California, residing in Seal Beach, CA for eight years.

Joe brought a great deal of passion and energy to all of his business endeavors, but he was most passionate about his family and the holidays that brought them all together.
